'THE MODERN PANOPTICON'
DISSERTATION ESSAY

"The Panopticon model is a catalyst of our Panoptic society."

In my dissertation, I related an 18th-century prison template, the Panopticon, to our current modern society. The dissertation discusses whether the panopticon is more than just a building but an introduction of invisible power. In our modern society, I referenced ways we are controlled by invisible power, architectural form, materials, CCTV and even social media. These elements of invisible power are embedded in our everyday lives and similar to the Panopticon, have significant control about how we act and behave. Are they designed as technological advances or as apparatuses of control?
